What is ASASIpintar UKM?

Being the alumni of this Asasi, I will share about this foundation/pre-u programme. I know you guys who are reading this are 2016 SPM leavers so I hope this sharing will benefits you and helps you to in making choices for your UPU. I was a student of ASASIpintar for 2015/2016 session. Well, some of you might not heard about ASASIpintar before because it's a new foundation programme. Maybe you only heard about this Asasi when scrolling down the UPU choices (am I wrong?) I'm the fifth batch of ASASIpintar btw. I'm currently an undergraduate at UKM. If you guys are wondering why am I typing ASASIpintar like that and not like Asasi Pintar, it is just the way how ASASIpintar is spelled. It is the trademark so yeah. Why pintar? Because we are pintar like that (ok just kidding). I think it's because we're under PUSAT PERMATApintar Negara so the name pintar should be retained

ASASIpintar is a pre-university programme. This programme prepares students to enter Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) for undergraduate studies. Mind you, this is not like Asasi in UM or UiTM where you can apply to other universities for undergraduate studies, so by all cost, if you choose ASASIpintar, you will further your studies in UKM. A bit of UKM's history.....

Like the name implies, it is the only national university of Malaysia. Founded in 1970 and it is the 'nation's university' because the citizens themselves collect money to raise fund to build a national university where the national language, Bahasa Melayu is used.

What is ASASIpintar?
  • Asasi / Foundation / Pre-university programme
  • 1 year programme / 2 semesters
Where is ASASIpintar conducted?
  • Pusat PERMATApintar Negara, UKM Bangi
Requirements (2016/2017 session) *
  • Malaysian
  • Min 7A's SPM (BM, English, Maths, Add Maths, Biology, Physics, Chemistry) *Science stream
  • Pass the placement test and interviews conducted by Pusat PERMATApintar
  • *They will update new brochure for new intake.
What are the subjects?
For semester 1 you will have 8 subjects. All these 8 subjects are calculated in your pointer/cgpa so do not take lightly of them. For semester 2 you will have 7 subjects. For matriculation and Asasi UiTM/UM if I'm not mistaken there are four-five subjects taken into cgpa.
You can choose whether to take Science stream or Social Science stream during the orientation week. To apply to ASASIpintar, you need to be from science stream. Photo below taken from brochure of 2016/2017 session. Click here for brochure.
Ps If you want to ask regarding any of the subjects do reach me through contact form.
How is the class conducted?
Since the number of students is limited, so the class is small. During asasi, my class has 24 students. I think for 2016/2017 sessions they have about 16 students per class because our intakes have more students than 2016/2017 session.
Small class means you can focus more and the lecturer also can pay attention to you, if you in need of more explanation you can always see the lecturer after class. You could engage more in class through different study methods such as interactive learning, presentation, singing, forum and many others. At matriculation or asasi UM/UiTM the class is conducted in lecture hall where there are so many students (200+ maybe ??) in one lecture hall. It's not like we do not conduct any lecture in lecture hall, we have it too. For mass lecture like Jati Diri or Kepimpinan subjects, all students will be at auditorium for the lecture. This is why the fees for ASASIpintar is quite high because they employ more lecturers to teach about 11 classes. (10 science stream classes, 1 sosial science stream class - during my session). For 2016/2017 session they have 6 classes only.

Here is a photo of the auditorium of PERMATApintar (Taken during orientation week! OMG time flies) This is where most programs/ceremonies are being held. It's like the main hall.
Fees
From the rumours (oh but it is likely true), they said that ASASIpintar is the most expensive asasi in Malaysia. But don't worry because asasi students are eligible to receive Bantuan Asasi from Kementerian Pelajaran Malaysia. So no worries you will get pocket money and can still pay the fees alright?
The photo below is from 2016/2017 brochure so be sure to check this link for more info on ASASIpintar. They will update new brochure for next intake.

Residential college
During asasi, I stayed in one of the biggest residential colleges (kolej kediaman) of UKM, Kolej Keris Mas aka KKM. KKM is the nearest residential college to Pusat PERMATApintar Negara (PPpN), our campus. There will be shuttle bus to and and fro KKM - PPpN.
